Words and Movement in the Cave of Knowledge-Palabras y Movimiento en la Cueva de Sabiduria intends to bring story telling and live performing arts to San Antonio's South side. The Cave of Knowledge, is a hand crafted, tiny cob library inside Galeria E.V.A (ecos y voces del arte) 3412 S Flores, San Antonio, TX 78204. Galeria E.V.A is owned by renowned sculptural artist, Veronica Castillo Salas. The Cave of Knowledge and it's beautiful gardens makes for the perfect backdrop for live story telling, reading, spoken word and live performing arts. Words will be performed by Josie Mendez- Negrete, PhD, professor emerita of The University of Texas at San Antonio, is founder and publisher of Conocimientos Press. Conocimientos Press publishes accounts that voice the heart of a people, as they document narratives of struggle and resistance. El sol-sun, la luna-moon, el corazon-heart, and el nopal-cactus serve as icons of knowing in the interaction with others, whereby interstices of power and quotidian sabidurias-conscious and reflexive everyday wisdom and knowledge- inspire empowerment and growth. Movement will be performed by Rosa Rosie Torres, a dance teacher, mover, choreographer and teaching artist. Native of the Rio Grande at the Laredo-Nuevo Laredo intersections. Current teaching residencies with Urban 15 and the San Antonio Ballet School. Recent collaborations and studies include, San Antonio Dance Fringe and Dancing Earth, under the direction of Rulan Tangen.
