Actors, producers, directors, and technicians will gather together to create plays from concept to execution in a 24-hour period, and present them to a live audience.
Join The Classic Theatre of San Antonio for the inaugural presentation of TheatreNOW, an exciting, fast-paced 24-hour event that will culminate in an evening of theatrical entertainment during San Antonio’s upcoming Sterling Houston Festival. Dozens of artists will join together to present five, 10-minute plays that will be written, rehearsed, and presented to a live audience within one 24-hour period. The theme is a mystery until the clock starts ticking; What they come up with is anyone’s guess, but the final results are sure to be a crowd-pleaser. Audience goers are invited to enjoy the performances on June 11th at 7 p.m. at Northeast Lakeview College Performing Arts Center.
This event is in partnership with The San Antonio Theatre Coalition. It is free and open to the public.
How does it all come together?
Actors, directors, playwrights, and technicians will gather together on June 10th at 7 p.m. where they will be provided a randomly selected quote from Sterling Houston’s work. Playwrights will then work tirelessly throughout the night to produce a script, inspired by the selected quote, that will then be handed over to actors and directors the next morning to rehearse throughout the day. Audience members will be able to see the finished works that night at 7 p.m. completing the 24-hour period.
This fun, sleepless, and creative event is all in honor of Sterling Houston, who was a San Antonio theatre legend and was recognized by the city and state for his cultural contributions to the community. TheatreNOW is one of several events taking place during the Sterling Houston Festival happening from June 4th-19th.
