Join us for the opening receptions of two new exhibits in the Centro de Artes Gallery. Free and open to the public! Reception takes place on Tuesday, August 9 from 6 pm to 9 pm.
First Floor: Artist Leila Hernández's La Visa Negra 2.5: Tendiendo los Trapitos al Sol is a collection of narratives dealing with time, identity, and place via the cultural crossover between South Texas and Northern Mexico. The exhibition is a salute to the sweat and tears of these contemporary, resilient immigrants that are forging their new lives, through hard work.
Second Floor: Artist Elizabeth Jiménez Montelongo's The Euphoric Dance of the Unconquered Mind features textured oil paintings of Mexika dancers that exude movement, energy, and power to celebrate the continued tradition of Indigenous dance ceremony. The vibrantly colored paintings celebrate mental liberation and honor our Indigenous ancestors.
Located in the heart of downtown in Historic Market Square, Centro de Artes gallery is a two-story exhibit space dedicated to telling the story of the Latino experience in the United States with a focus on South Texas through local and regional art, history and culture, and showcasing Latino artists and Latino-themed artworks.
