"On the Wind, On the Wing" Poetry Reading and Performance

Presented by Bihl Haus Arts at Bihl Haus Arts

Bihl Haus Arts will host an afternoon of readings and performances, titled “On the Wind, On the Wing,” in conjunction with the gallery’s current exhibit, “The Art of Allowing” by Jill Ewing.

The event includes introductions and bird-like citations by Jim LaVilla-Havelin, Linda Simone and Jeanie Sanders, as well as a puppet performance, “The Crane Wife” by Mobi Warren and Patricia Keoughan.

Nature is the central theme in “The Art of Allowing,” and reflects Ewing’s love of the outdoors and all that Mother Nature has to offer. The exhibition’s theme is illustrated in the drawings and paintings of birds of all kinds that Ewing and the 18 veterans she teaches in the Forward Arts! program will have on display.

Simone is a visual artist, poet, and teacher. She is the author of “Archeology, Cow Tippers” and “Moon: A Poem” and the volume, “The River Will Save Us.” (Kelsey Books, 2018). She is the coordinator of National Poetry Month in San Antonio’s Ekphrastic celebrations.

Sanders is a poet and visual artist. She is the author of “Book of the Dead: Poems and Photographs” (Tip Your Hat Press, 2019) and a member of the Sun Poets.

Warren is a puppeteer, poet, and retired math teacher. She is also co-founder of Stone in Stream/Roca en el Rio, a gathering of writers, artists and activists committed to the environment. She is the author of “Thread and Nectar” (Finishing Line Press, 2020) and the novel, “The Bee Maker” (2019).

Keoughan is a retired marriage and family therapist and university instructor. She is a member of the Bihl Haus creative writing class, member of Maverick Poets and Stone in Stream. She recently completed the manuscript of a volume of poems, entitled “Save Yourself.”

LaVilla-Havelin curates literary events and teaches creative writing for Bill Haus and elsewhere in the community. He is the coordinator of National Poetry Month in San Antonio. His newest book is “Tales from the Breakaway Republic” (Moonstone Press, 2022).
