The African Influence In The Americas: Documentary Film

Presented by Melaneyes Media at Digital Event

Join us for an online experience as we learn about The African Influence in the Americas as we screen the documentary film "Walk on the River 2.0." Through the lens of San Antonio, Texas we explore evidence of African Influence in the Americas before and after the arrival of Europeans in this part of the world.
The strongest evidence of African presence in America before Columbus comes from the pen of Columbus himself. In 1920, a renowned American historian and linguist, Leo Weiner of Harvard University, in his book, Africa and the discovery of America, explained how Columbus noted in his journal that Native Americans had confirmed that “black skinned people had come from the south-east in boats, trading in gold-tipped spears.”
In this second award winning documentary we speak about the presence and influence people of African descent have had in this area before and during enslavement, including:
* The African Presence in the Americas before Columbus
* The Moors in Spain
* Blacks at the Battle of the Alamo
* Slavery in San Antonio
* Emancipation Celebrations in Texas (Juneteenth)
* African Symbols in the city… and more
