Join Artpace San Antonio on Thursday, January 19, 2023, from 6–8pm for a preview of Robert Leroy Hodge’s limited edition vinyl.
Hodge is a multi-disciplinary artist who participated in Artpace's International Artist-in-Residence program in 2017 and was featured in the 2021 Artpace presentation of "Slowed and Throwed: Records of the City through Mutated Lenses." Slowed and Throwed, curated by the Contemporary Art Museum, Houston, was the first museum exhibition with a conceptual focus on the late Houston legend DJ Screw.
"Between the Devil and the Deep" was created as part of Hodge's Artpace residency and is a musical journey based on the Crossroads mythology of legendary blues musician Robert Johnson. The record was recorded over Thanksgiving weekend in San Antonio’s Sheraton Gunter Hotel 80 years to-the-day in the same room where Robert Johnson recorded "Crossroad Blues" and "Ramblin’ on My Mind" in 1936.
During this event, Hodge will say a few words about the album and guests will be among the first to have the chance to purchase a copy of the signed album (limited quantities available).
This event is free and open to the public. The limited edition vinyl can be purchased ahead of time, online, or during the event.
