San Antonio native George Garza, Jr. has a tenured history of involvement in the local music community, both as a bassist (Pop Pistol, The Foreign Arm) and as an organizer (Local 782, San Antonio Local Music Guild). This year, with the financial assistance from an Individual Artist Grant from the City of San Antonio Department of Arts and Culture, Garza presents his first full-length album as a solo songwriter, performing acoustic guitar, electric guitar, electric bass guitar, and lead vocals on full orchestrations of songs he has written over the last twenty years. Collaborators on this project include Nina Diaz, Mike Carillo, Jorge Gonzalez, Alex Scheel, Andrea "Vocab" Sanderson, Nick Long, Nicholas Blevins, and Zach Jewell. As an album, Enjoy the Ride provides multiple landscapes of music, each song reflecting a wide range of musical influences, both regional and international - from Soul, R&B, and Country to Folk, Rock, and Pop. On the evening of his 38th birthday, February 24th, Garza will host an album listening party that is open to the public of all ages. The program for the event will feature Garza leading conversation with some of his friends and collaborators as he previews each of the 8 songs on the album. Poetic Republic hosts this intimate gathering in their South Flores store-front.
