“Angler Maiden” by Lisa Nigro at Bosch Parade, Netherlands June 16-19, 2022.
ANGLER MAIDEN at Bosch Parade 2022
As Bosch Parade's first International Artist-in-Residence, Lisa Nigro designed and produced "Angler Maiden," a floating steel sculpture with flame effects for this "outlandish" biennial event. Nineteen artists from around the globe were selected to participate in this five day parade on water which is inspired by the works of the famous painter, Hieronymus Bosch, who once dwelled in this beautiful city of 's-Hertogenbosch, Netherlands. With the assistance of local Dutch artists, musicians, and volunteers, and in two and half months, the artwork was completed and strapped onto a bank of pontoons for floatation on the Dommel River. A large flame shoots out of Angler's head as the captain mans the tail and convinces the fish to turn pirouettes down stream. Inside, two hidden rowers help propel the fish forward and work in sync to melodramatic music played by two accordion players to create the performance aspect of the piece.
Materials: Steel, recycled steel drums, found objects, wooden oars, pontoons, flame effects.
Dimensions: 22' x 10' x 9’
