Mentor Wonders - NPMSA FREE Screening

Presented by Word Bop Workshop - Jazz Poetry at Woodlawn Pointe

"Mentor Wonders" is a new dramatic play about mentoring in a bilingual San Antonio public school, written by Catherine Lee. The script was developed over 9 months of Zoom-recorded rehearsals by the Seniors in Play readers’ theater group. This video was assembled from Dress Rehearsals of script and poetry interludes, b-roll of actual mentoring interactions, and original music.

What’s “Mentor Wonders” about?

During a volunteer Orientation at a San Antonio bilingual public school, new mentoring volunteers wonder about safety, while staff and veteran mentors share stories about their interactions with students. “Dreamscapes,” poetry paired with music, occasionally interrupt their dialog.

An AMBER alert goes off, upsetting everyone when they realize that the abducted child is one of their own mentees. This terrible situation eventually resolves so that both the boy and his mentor stay friends and are able to go on with their separate lives.

The writer, Catherine Lee, video post-production artist, James E. Sanders Jr, and many of the creative souls who helped develop the script may be there to answer questions.
