Finding Helena is a Jewish story, a German story, an American story. But most of all, it’s a love story.
Finding Helena is a new, original musical written by a father-daughter team here in San Antonio.
It is the story of Helena, the daughter of a Nazi officer in Poland, who falls in love with Ari, a Jewish resistance fighter. He helps her see the reality of why the Germans are in Poland and she eventually runs away with him. Separated in the chaos of war, they struggle to survive and keep the promise they made - finding each other in New York City, the land of opportunity and freedom.
This will be what is called a "staged reading", meaning the actors will be on stage with a live band, reading from their scripts and singing all the songs. (No sets or special costumes). Immediately after, the writers and director will ask the audience to discuss their thoughts and feelings about the show.
There will be two performances on Sunday, July 30th at 2:30pm and 6:30pm. Each show will be 2:45 with a 15 minute intermission.
All proceeds from admission will go to paying for this reading and readings in New York City. The ultimate goal is to find producers who will take it to Broadway! https://findinghelenamusical.com/
