The renowned Transformation Workshop “Taller de Transformación” conceived and taught by Belén Maya and last taught in Sevilla, Spain, is coming to San Antonio for the first time April 4-7 2024.

The workshop will be hosted by Dondi Persyn in the countryside of Boerne, Texas at Rosewood Maison.

Belén Maya structures the workshop into an exploration of the elements and how they manifest in our bodies and expression. This yields space to spark spontaneity, allowing students to push through personal limits in movement, interpretation, improvisation. This workshop is singular, as you do not have to be a dancer to participate. Among professional dancers, past students have included therapists, doctors, authors, students, artists, and mystics. For dancers, this workshop is at once challenging, daunting, invigorating, and revitalizing.

Among many other things, the workshop is a four-day experiential process based on how dance and movement relate to the five elements of Traditional Chinese Medicine. The workshop is practical, physical, and experiential: it is an experience. Each day, we explore a new element (earth, water, air, fire, ether), and attendees can participate to the degree that they wish.

Maya shares more than teaches from her body of experience the energetic practices that work for her, in relation to her artistic and vital process and thus the way in which she contemplates learning and experimentation. This has marked the development of the workshop, which manifests anew each time.

Maya doesn’t offer this four-day workshop very often, but it is a once in a lifetime experience. Regardless of your experience level, walk of life, or where you come from, this workshop can help you deepen your understanding of your own approach as it relates to your life and artistic path.

Belén Maya travels to San Antonio from Sevilla, Spain to provide this workshop. As the daughter of the legendary Mario Maya, who single-handedly revolutionized flamenco through his choreography and large-format company, Belén was born into greatness. However, she has managed to build a stellar reputation that’s based more on her own work and personal style than on her family name. Belén is a tremendously prolific artist, with work oscillating between the traditional and the contemporary, and she tours the world performing and teaching.
