Dance Kaleidoscope 2017 featuring The Firebird

Presented by San Antonio Metropolitan Ballet at Majestic Theatre

San Antonio Metropolitan Ballet’s presentation of “Dance Kaleidoscope 2017" will explore classical and contemporary dance with music by Igor Stravinsky, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Nils Frahm, Ludovico Einaudi, and Olafur Arnolds. The performance will open with a variety of neo-classical and contemporary works choreographed by Emerging and Professional Choreographers including SA Met Ballet’s Senior Company Member, Rowan Casillas; Jessica Lang Dance (NY) Company Dancer, Patrick Coker; SA Met Ballet Associate Director, Karin Heiden; and former Feld and Boston Ballet dancer, Alfonso Figueroa.

This Season 33 performance will close with George Skibine’s “The Firebird,” staged by Thom Clower. Based on Russian fairy tales, this ballet is about a magic Firebird who is captured by Prince Ivan. In return for her freedom she gives the Prince a magic feather which later helps him rescue his beloved Tsarevna from the monster Kostchei. Mr. Skibine’s original choreography from 1965 to Stravinsky’s 1945 rewritten score has been staged on ballet companies around the world. SA Met Ballet’s presentation will be a premier for San Antonio audiences. With original costumes from the Harkness and Paris Opera Ballet companies, this production promises to be visually and auditorily stunning.
