Equilibria

Equilibria

Presented by UTSA Terminal 136 and University of Texas at San Antonio at Terminal 136

Siblings, Lisa and Thomas Choinacky meld their current work practice in Equilibria, a reflective and meditational space in which lines diverge and unite to create pathways that trace the past, present, and future. Maintaining a balance and equity, these pathways weave together abstraction, structural studies, and symmetry.  Acting as a guide, Equilibria is an opportunity for self-reflection as both the domestic and the public overlap with the individual and collective.

Lisa Choinacky (b.1974 South Bend, IN) lives in Austin, TX.  She exhibits nationally and is affiliated with Northern Southern Gallery. Her painting process has evolved into her meditation practice—in which all work is done in one sitting—as she explores connectivity, symmetry, & relationships. Her current body of work involves ink on paper and is inspired by Morton Feldman’s piano compositions.

Thomas Choinacky (b. 1984, South Bend, IN) lives in Philadelphia and is a company member of the experimental theater collective Applied Mechanics. His current artistic practice deals with the relationship between architecture, body, and movement. From a nine-hour durational performance viewable through a peephole, to a voyeuristic journey through each room of an apartment, to his single stroke tennis ball paintings that externalize internal movements of the body into symmetrical spatial patterns, Thomas crafts spatial experiences in performance.
