Meet the Donkey Lady and other characters inspired by local legend in this hilarious and hyper-local play based on Marisela Barrera’s short stories. Written and performed by Barrera with live music by George Garza, Jr. Joining Barrera onstage are actors Janie Sauceda, Salvador Valadez, Holly Nanez, and Valentina Barrera. Designers include costumes by John McBurney, set by visual artist Michael Menchaca, lights by Chuck drew, and masks by Richard Solis.
Audience members who come dressed as their favorite Tex-Mex or Mexican legend, living or dead, real or fictional, will receive one complimentary drink.
“Ruby Reds, Big Birds y Burras” runs August 4 and 5 at 8 p.m. A special tardeada (afternoon) performance happens Sunday, August 6 at 3 p.m. The play runs approximately one hour and fifteen minutes and is appropriate for ages twelve and up, más o menos.
