Friends of the San Antonio Public Library Arts & Letters Awards

at Central Library

Join the Friends of the San Antonio Public Library as they celebrate the 45th anniversary of the Arts & Letters awards by honoring Latino jazz musician Henry Brun, sculptor and light artist Bill FitzGibbons, and mixed-media artist Laurel Gibson!

Each year since 1972, the Friends of the San Antonio Public Library have presented the Arts & Letters awards to “recognize and celebrate achievement by individuals who have demonstrated outstanding accomplishments in the arts and letters.” The list of nearly 100 past honorees includes “artists, writers, musicians, educators, community leaders, and entertainers whose dedication and devotion to their chosen fields have served to enrich the cultural and spiritual life of San Antonio.”

Past recipients have included Janette Sebring Lowery (author of children’s classic The Poky Little Puppy), architect O’Neil Ford, actor Tommy Lee Jones, singer/teacher Rosita Fernández, artist Lyn Belisle, glass artist Gini García, and authors Jacques Barzun, Sandra Cisneros, Rick Riordan, Jay Brandon, and Naomi Shihab Nye.

The event is free and open to the public. The awards presentation will be followed by a reception. RSVP online.
