The North East School of the Arts continues its 21st season with the Tony Award® winning, CHICAGO; the longest running American musical in Broadway history.
Set amidst the glitz and glamour of the 1920’s, this musical vaudeville is based upon the eponymous play written by Maurine Dallas Watkins; who found inspiration for the tale as a crime reporter. Based on real life accounts, CHICAGO tells the story of Roxie Hart, a housewife/nightclub dancer who finds herself on Murderess’ Row after malevolently shooting her lover, who threatens to leave her.
Desperate to avoid a conviction, Roxie hires the smooth-talking criminal lawyer, Billy Flynn, who assists in manipulating the public, the media, and her contending cellmate, Velma Kelly, by transforming her vicious crime into a bombardment of sensational news headlines.
With music by John Kander and Lyrics by Fred Ebb, CHICAGO’s legendary score highlights vibrant Jazz and Rock rhythms, with popular tunes like “Cell Block Tango”, “Razzle Dazzle”, “Hot Honey Rag”, and "All That Jazz”. Combined with the renowned choreography of Bob Fosse, this production is not to be missed.
