To celebrate Women’s Month, the UTSA Institute of Texan Cultures will call on the talents of former San Antonio Poet Laureate Carmen Tafolla to share stories and inspiring moments from her life and career. She will offer an interactive story for children to participate in during her presentation. Manuel Medrano, a retired professor from UT-RGV, and his Los del Valle filmmakers will present a new documentary on Tafolla’s life and accomplishments.
Additionally, the institute will present some of the customs and traditions associated with the Japanese observance Hinamatsuri, the Girl’s Festival, celebrated in early March. Visitors can see a display of traditional hina dolls, make origami kimono dolls and other crafts, learn about Japanese culture and see a performance by the UTSA Japanese Club.
