On First Friday, May 4, the Art League will join the city-wide celebration Arts for All. From 10 a.m.-3 p.m., visitors can view San Antonio-area artists’ work in the 88th Annual Artists’ Exhibition. This year’s juror was Michael Ettema, who has more than 30 years’ experience as a museum curator, educator, and museum director. With the exception of the winning Onderdonk Purchase Prize award-winning work, all pieces in the exhibition are offered for sale, as are works in the members’ gallery.
In addition, from 4:30-7:30 p.m., exclusively for the May 4 Arts for All event, additional work by nine member artists will be displayed in and around the newly renovated Semmes Studio on the grounds. All work will be for sale, and the artists will be on site to discuss their work. The nine featured artists are: Richard Arrendondo, Lisa Mara Bell, John Cebrowski, Aaron Farris, Susan Farris, Carolina Flores, Maria F. Gobiembiewski, Lisa Shakelford and Stephanie Spears.
Docents will also be on hand to discuss the Art League’s history and its annual schedule of exhibitions during the special May 4 First Friday. The Annual Artists’ Exhibition continues during the Art League’s regular hours, 10 a.m.-3 p.m., Tuesday-Saturday, through May 26.
