A mainstay in Spanish festivals and parades are Cabezudos (“giants” or “big heads”), which feature large paper-mâché heads paired with ornate costumes—often inspired by religious figures and popular culture. Famed Spanish folk artists Ventura & Hosta travel from Catalonia, Spain, to share this artistic tradition with San Antonio and embark on a two-week residency at Southwest School of Art. The Tricentennial-inspired Cabezudos Parade will debut at the Pearl Farmers Market and culminate in a live performance by Volcán, the 13-piece Indie-Latin Orchestra based in South Texas.
