Laredito-The Forgotten Neighborhood West of San Pedro Creek Visual Exhibition

Presented by Centro Cultural Aztlan at Centro Cultural Aztlan

In conjunction with San Antonio’s Tricentennial celebrations, Centro Cultural Aztlan presents an exhibition entitled “Laredito”: The forgotten neighborhood West of San Pedro Creek. Artists were assigned to explore the cultural contributions of several populations, who came together in El Laredito in the 1700s, including Mestizos, Native Americans, Mexicans, and Canary Islanders. It will also explore influences over the 300-year history as the city and neighborhood continued to change, including from other European cultures and Mexican Americans.

Participating Artists include:
Luciano C. Arredondo, Richard Arredondo, Jose Esquivel, Rosa Flores Fernandez, Oscar Galvan Jr., Antonio Garcia, Hector Garza, Noe G. Garza, Laurel Gibson, Gloria Sanchez Hart, Jeffrey L. Hull, Paul Karam, Nancy Klapp, Angelica Mayorga, Lupe “Spike” Muñoz, Alexandra Nelipa, Tim Palomera, Martin Emmanuel Rangel, Victor Tello, Jesse Sauceda Torres, Raul Servin, Ramon Vasquez y Sanchez, Michael Villanueva, Robert Wilkens, and Guillermina Zabala. 

Poetry specially created for this exhibit by:
Alicia Zavala Galvan, the Jazz Poetry Band and the Jazz Poets of San Antonio including, Eduardo Garza, Susana Marquez, Eron J. Coffey, Del Ellison, Charles M. Hornbeak, Terry Lee, KC James, Mandy Lynn Lara, and Jose Mojica.

Opening reception is Friday, July 13, 2018 from 6-9 p.m. Free and open to the public.
Exhibit will run through August 10, 2018.
Viewing hours are Monday-Friday, 9 a.m.-5 p.m.
