Michael Carnes: “Through the Looking Glass” Senior Capstone Exhibit

Michael Carnes: “Through the Looking Glass” Senior Capstone Exhibit

Presented by University of the Incarnate Word (UIW) - Art Department at Kelso Art Center/ Condos Student Gallery

Michael Carnes was born in San Antonio, Texas in 1994. He is currently attending the University of the incarnate Word and is a candidate for the BFA degree in Art, which  he will receive in December 2018. Michael is a painter/mixed media artist working in oil and acrylics. His work, which is figurative, concerns itself with the politics of sexual identity.

His approach brings together realistic deception with an abstracted style. Subjects run the gamut from self-portraiture to friends and family and well-known political figures. This exploration asks viewers to look beyond shock value to accept and embrace the full gamut sexual identities.

Exhibit on display: Fri. Oct. 12-Fri. Nov. 16, 2018
