The San Antonio Art League & Museum will host an opening reception for its 2018 Member Invitational Exhibition. The exhibition will feature Sylvia Benitez and Vikki Fields and will run through Sunday, December 16, with a closing reception that day from 3-5 p.m.
Two of the Art League’s most respected painters join forces in this stunning exhibition.
Sylvia Benitez has exhibited sculptural and painting installations in numerous museums, sculpture parks and galleries throughout the U.S., including the Whitney Museum of American Art at Champion International Corporation in Stamford, CT; Wave Hill in the Bronx, NY; Socrates Sculpture Park in Queens, NY; and the American Craft Museum in New York. Since 2007, Benitez has taught painting and drawing at the Southwest School of Art in San Antonio.
Vikki Fields did graduate work at the University of Texas at San Antonio where she studied painting and sculpture, and also studied at the Southwest School of Art and at the Houston Museum School, where Ben Woitena taught figure sculpture using Rodin’s method of recreating the outlines of the figure in clay while moving around the model. Committed as she is to the plein air approach, Fields paints landscapes on site and, for portraiture, works only from life, never from photographs.
The artists will be on hand to discuss their work informally. The public is invited for the opening reception. The San Antonio Art League & Museum in located in the King William Cultural Arts District and is supported in part by The City of San Antonio Department of Arts and Culture.
