American String Quartet

American String Quartet

Presented by San Antonio Chamber Music Society at Temple Beth-El

Internationally-recognized as one of the world’s finest quartets, the American String Quartet has spent decades honing its famous, luxurious sound. The Quartet will celebrate its 45th anniversary in 2019, and  since its founding has performed in all 50 states and in many well-known venues.

For this event, the Quartet performs music by Bach, Shostakovich, Bartok, Barber, and Beethoven – a selection with great audience appeal.  To illuminate the theme of this concert, “Lyric in Time of War,” readings by poet, Tom Sleigh, along with USMC veteran and writer, Phil Klay, touching on issues of war and healing will be interwoven with the music. “Art cannot solve our problems, but there is hope that it can equip us to face them with equanimity.”
