Alamo City Performing Arts Association Presents The Nutcracker

Alamo City Performing Arts Association Presents The Nutcracker

Presented by Alamo City Performing Arts Association at McAllister Auditorium

Children, families, and adults are invited to join Alamo City Performing Arts Association for a magical performance of "The Nutcracker" ballet. This holiday classic tells the story of a young girl named Clara who is given a Nutcracker as a gift and later that evening dreams of encounters with mice and soldiers in a battle. Her Nutcracker turns into a Prince to save the day but it is she who saves him instead. He thanks her with a fantastic journey through the Kingdom of Snow and the Kingdom of Sweets.

As the longest running production of "The Nutcracker" in San Antonio, Choreographer and Artistic Director, Scott Conway’s beloved version of "The Nutcracker" is a treat for all of San Antonio to enjoy. The performance on Friday, December 21, 2018 will provide a comfortable, safe, and inviting environment for individuals who have sensory, social, and learning sensitivities. Adaptations for this performance include: moderate and consistent sound levels; audience lighting left on low through the performance; low-level talking is allowed; house rules are relaxed to allow individuals to leave and enter the theater as needed; and the performance will be abridged to 1 hour. Dancers of the Alamo City Dance Company with resident soloist, Krysta Kirkpatrick, as the Sugar Plum Fairy will be joined by dancers of Eva’s Heroes in this inclusive performance. Over 30 youth performers from local dance schools including the San Antonio School for the Performing Arts, Dance Plus, Diamond Dance Academy and Quenedit Ballet School fill the stage with joy and energy in the production’s children’s cast. Thank you to Alamo Colleges Fine Arts Department and Bexar County for sponsoring this performance of "The Nutcracker."

"The Nutcracker" performances on Saturday, December 22 and Sunday, December 23, will feature live musical accompaniment from Symphony Viva and dancers of the Alamo City Dance Company with principal guests artists Jessica Ramm as the Sugar Plum Fairy and Zane Terry as the Cavalier. Over 100 youth performers from local dance schools including the San Antonio School for the Performing Arts, Dance Plus, Diamond Dance Academy and Quenedit Ballet School fill the stage with joy and energy in the production’s children’s cast. Led by conductor Dr. Guadalupe Rivera Jr., Tchaikovsky’s luscious score will be performed by over 36 local and guest musicians.
