One of the State’s oldest juried arts competitions opens with a reception. More than $10,000 in awards will be presented to the winning artists at Sunday’s event, which is free and open to the public. The exhibition will be on view until June 2, 2019.
A highlight of the event will be the presentation of the coveted Onderdonk Purchase Prize. That chosen artwork will added to the SAALM’s permanent collection. 20 awards in total will be announced at the reception. All awards are designated by the Exhibition Juror.
This year’s juror, Dr. Stephanie Fox Knappe, Curator at the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art in Kansas City, selected a total of 68 artworks from the 369 state-wide submission.
The current exhibition is the 89th open event of San Antonio Art League and Museum (SAALM) in its more than 106 years of establishment. It grew out of the fabled Edgar B. Davis Competitions of the late 1920s. Catalogs of the work will be available at the reception.
