Join the San Antonio Mastersingers as they present their 16th annual “Musical Shower of Roses” concert at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Little Flower.
This year’s program, “Secular Meets Sacred,” features works that use folk and popular musical elements in setting the sacred text of the Latin Mass. The “Misa Criolla”, composed by Ariel Ramírez (1963), is based on South American folk music and liturgical styles. It proves that indigenous musical forms can communicate the highest values of life, and that the Mass liturgy may be conveyed through a popular medium of expression. Likewise, Robert Ray’s iconic “Gospel Mass” uses the elements of the Gospel style to set the text of the Latin Mass.
Tickets are $20, general admission; $50 preferred seating, including a complimentary 2019 Fiesta medal.
