Salt of the Earth Film Screening

Salt of the Earth Film Screening

Presented by Esperanza Peace and Justice Center at Esperanza Peace & Justice Center

This May Day join the Party for Socialism and Liberation – San Antonio and About Face at the Esperanza Peace and Justice Center for a free film screening of "Salt of the Earth" (1954).

“Salt of the Earth” is a work of socialist film which depicts the dramatic events in the course of a labor strike by zinc miners in New Mexico. Based on real events and even featuring some of the actual strike participants, the film depicts the strategies and tactics of organizing and fighting to win, as strikers and bosses escalate their moves and counters.

The true hero and beauty of the film, however, is solidarity. Only deep solidarity (which required an internal liberation struggle to attain) granted the strikers enough power to defeat the “triplets of evil” they were facing: racism, sanctioned violence, and economic oppression.

Please join us this May Day to watch “Salt of the Earth” and discuss one of the mightiest political tools we have as workers: the strike.
