A Component of the University of Texas at San Antonio, the Institute of Texan Cultures opened in 1968 as part of the World’s Fair, HemisFair, hosted in San Antonio. The “Texas Pavilion” displayed exhibits on more than 20 cultures that have come to Texas and left their indelible mark on the state’s character and identity. The institute exhibits stories, images, artifacts and customs that define unique cultures: Music, food, clothing, artworks, and other aspects of everyday life. The museum hosts a variety of programs, including the popular Texas Folklife Festival on the second weekend of June, and the Asian Festival on the Saturday after the Lunar New Year.
