The Bexar County Buffalo Soldiers Association was organized in San Antonio, Texas, on August 13, 1999.   We were chartered by the State of Texas on September 29, 1999.  We are a Non-Profit 501(c)(3) Organization.

Our purpose is to research, preserve, educate, and lecture an accurate, and objective history of the great contributions of the United States Army’s 9th and 10th Cavalries, 38th, 39th, 40th, and 41st ( 24th and 25th) Infantries, and the Seminole Negro Indian Scouts during the Indian War Period (1866 through the 1891.

We share that rich history with community churches, public and private organizations, and various youth programs.  We have conducted annual youth camps at one of the various Texas Parks and Wildlife centers to teach jerky making, fishing, outdoor games, wildlife education, and mentor leadership while also explaining the pitfalls of substance abuse.

We have made countless appearances at schools, churches, colleges, senior adult book clubs, military installations, corporations, Texas forts, and Living History festivals.  In addition, we provide lectures, Color Guard presentations, participate in ceremonial parades, and collaborate with Institute of Texas Cultures and the Briscoe Western Art Museum.

During the India War period, San Antonio, Texas was the initial training site for the 9th Cavalry F Troop after their recruitment in Greenville, Louisiana.  Over 200 Buffalo Soldiers rest in peace in San Antonio, Texas, in two locations near the “Tomb of the Unknown” at the San Antonio National Cemetery, and the Fort Sam Houston National Military Cemetery.  So, San Antonio, Texas, was the ideal location for our association.

Our Buffalo Soldiers Peace Park and Outdoor Museum was dedicated on July 7, 2005.  It is located at 1602 Wyoming Street, San Antonio, Texas.  Our park is open to the public, and is utilized for outdoor youth activities, public outreach programs, and family events upon request.
