Who We Are: The Marcsmen Chorus is affiliated with the Barbershop Harmony Society. BHS is historically known as the Society for the Encouragement of Barbershop Quartet Singing in America, Inc. It is now an international organization of men's a cappella choruses who sing in four part harmony. Our History: The Marcsmen Barbershop Chorus formed in 2007 on the campus of Texas State University in San Marcos, Texas. Our goal was to compete at the first International Barbershop Youth Festival being held in San Antonio, Texas in January 2008. We were made up of students from not only Texas State, but from surrounding Universities and High Schools as well. We practiced every Friday night at the University's music building. In January, the Marcsmen journeyed to San Antonio and preceded to win first place at the Youth Festival. We loved our new found hobby so much that we decided to become an official chapter of the Barbershop Harmony Society in 2009. The Marcsmen have qualified and competed in the Southwestern District competitions. In 2010 we qualified to compete at the International Barbershop Chorus Competition in Kansas City, MO in July, 2011. More recently, The Marcsmen earned the title of Southwestern District Chorus Champions at the 2012 District Competition and have advanced to the Barbershop Harmony Society's International competition at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto, Ontario, June 30 – July 7, 2013. Our Mission: "The Marcsmen are a growing musical brotherhood that exemplifies excellence in performance and shares the love of a cappella music with all."
