MISSION STATMENT
Since 1944, UNAM in San Antonio has symbolized a tradition of academic and cultural collaboration between Mexico and the United States. Our mission is to support the success of Mexicans in the United States through the development of linguistic and cultural competencies. To support bi-national understanding and integration through education, language teaching, cultural diffusion, academic extension, and synergy with other educational organizations in the United States by:

providing academic support to Mexican immigrants presenting academic and cultural activities to the general public promoting the image and endeavors of UNAM among the educational organizations in the U.S. working towards the internationalization of UNAM by implementing programs that promote faculty and student interchanges establishing relationships with enterprises and other institutions for the development of joint academic programs forming alliances with other universities to provide their students with opportunities of studying abroad at UNAM and to strengthen joint teaching programs

ADVANTAGES OF STUDYING AT UNAM SAN ANTONIO
The excellent quality of our classes, a friendly atmosphere, and state-of -the-art facilities are some of the reasons UNAM students and alumni prefer this school for learning languages. Immersion programs allow students to use the language they are studying right from the start. Emphasis is placed on developing the four skills (reading, writing, listening and speaking) as well as on the grammatical aspects of the language. The textbooks and supplementary materials that are used in class have been designed or selected by UNAM instructors to teach the target languages in a thorough but uncomplicated way, as well as to transmit the country’s culture. To supplement classroom instruction,intercultural exchanges between students from the United States, Mexico and other countries are organized. Small groups, a relaxed and friendly atmosphere, personalized attention, as well as the professionalism and dedication of professors who truly care about their students’ progress lead to better learning. All this, added to the fact that our facilities contain a modern language lab, a computer lab, and a videoconferencing center.

PROFESSORS
They are educated and experienced in the teaching of Spanish as a foreign language. English courses are taught by highly qualified native-speaking instructors specialized in the teaching of English as a second language. All have many years of experience teaching non-English speakers.

STUDENTS
The student population at UNAM-San Antonio is made up of people from different countries. Groups are small, facilitating interaction between the student and the teacher. The low teacher-student ratio also permits personalized instruction.

COURSES
Throughout the year, the UNAM-San Antonio offers English and Spanish classes as well as workshops and courses on different topics relevant to Mexico and the United States. During the summer, courses especially designed for teenagers are taught by instructors experienced in teaching these age groups.

SPECIAL COURSES
Courses are designed to satisfy the specific needs or interests of businesses, educational institutions or other organizations. They can be taught on site or at our facilities.

COMPUTER AND LANGUAGE LABORATORIES
UNAM in San Antonio has a multimedia computer laboratory with Internet access. The software programs provide students with the opportunity to improve their language skills. Along the same line, the language lab is an excellent resource for enhancing students’ listening and speaking skills. Some courses, such as Pronunciation, Listening Comprehension and Preparation for the TOEFL are held in the language lab. In addition, students may use the lab on a self-access basis to improve their listening comprehension skills.
