Included in Labor Plaza are three stainless steel sculptures titled I Remember Everything by Washington-based artist Ries Niemi. These pieces are centered around a historical focus, specifically on how history is comprised of layers and different forms of connection. These sculptures provide a nod to several groups important to San Antonio’s labor history including but not limited to the beefmaster breeders, beer bottlers, brewery workers, laborers, stone masons, and brick layers unions. The forms take the shape of skeletal structures made to reference wire frame diagrams made by computers. There is a sense of three-dimensional abstractions with surrounding bands of text featuring inscriptions in Spanish, English, and German.

The first of the series is “Chimney”, which takes its form from a limestone cement chimney. It is also reminiscent of breweries, or a haystack used in Cattle ranching.

The second sculpture is “Bench”, a circular and functional bench, loosely based on the domed roof of the Municipal Auditorium. It is reminiscent of a kiosk, a bandstand, or classical park furniture. Municipal Auditorium is also the location where Emma Tenayuca encountered an angry mob in 1939—a year after the Pecan Shellers Strike. The mob was enraged by her tied to communism and is on record as the largest riot in San Antonio.

The third, “Wing”, is a stylized wing form, referring to the Air Force influence and presence in San Antonio. Influenced by Kelly, Randolph and Brooks Fields, Lackland Air Force Base, and Stinson Municipal Field. There is also a nod to Boeing and the labor involved in the fabrication of planes here in San Antonio Wing symbolizes the importance flight has played in the development of San Antonio.
