“Spring, Yucca, Heron” by San Antonio artist Albert Garza is a mural paying tribute to the native plants and animals along with the seasonal migrations of the Coahuiltecan clans that populated this area for thousands of years. The artwork features a central silhouetted heron with blooming yucca plants flanking either side. The background is comprised of green stripes evoking spring.The mural draws inspiration from the yucca plant which served medicinal purposes including for burns and other skin problems. The steams, leaf bases, flowers, flower stocks, and fruits are edible when harvest and processed properly. “Spring, Yucca, Heron,” is part of the series “Four Seasons” located along Villamain Road at the Loop 410 these murals were created by four San Antonio artists and local nonprofit SMARTSA.
