“Where I end and You Begin” by San Antonio Artist Jason Eric Gonzales Martinez is a mural influenced by the cave-like setting of the location site. Located in an underpass surrounded by parks and adjacent to the San Antonio River, the mural explores nesting, migration, and connections between built and natural environments. Gonzales Martinez portrays the flora and fauna of this historic area. The color palette is very specific and works to represent the natural landscape. Ceramic nests and flat-stamp iconography influenced by pre-conquest indigenous communities are a central part of the murals narrative. Local arts nonprofit San Anto Cultural Arts led community engagement for “Where I End and You Begin.” San Anto Cutural Arts consulted with the San Antonio River Authority, the East Pyron Symphony Lane Neighborhood Association, and bird specialists to inform the work. “Where I End and You Begin” is part of a series of murals for the World Heritage Mural Trail. This series is located in San Antonio’s World Heritage Corridor and is a collaboration with the City of San Antonio Department of Arts & Culture and the World Heritage Office.
