“Star of Texas (La Estrella de Texas)” by Mexican artist Sebastian is comprised of five vertical metal elements that appear to lean on each other to create the shape of a star in the negative space at the top of the sculpture. Standing over 14-feet high, the sculpture is painted the artist’s signature fiery red. Known as the “Lone Star State,” Texas is unique for its vast landscape, vibrant and diverse community, and rich cultural history, while maintaining its reputation for its warmth, hospitality, and friendliness. Sending a visible message, the placement of the “Star of Texas” at the San Antonio International Airport welcomes visitors in that same fashion and leaves a lasting impression for those departing. Symbolically, San Antonio is both a lone star in its commitment to equity and a star in a constellation of the greater good that brings us all together – representing our shared humanity.
