Author Nancy Tringali Piho will be speaking and signing books during the event. My Two-Year-Old Eats Octopus approaches children’s nutrition with humor, style, and a critical eye. Nancy’s book teaches parents how kids can learn to love just about any new food. She offers tips from America’s top chefs, who are also parents, on how to get children to try new things at the table. As Jason and Crystal Dady are major “foodies” with two small children, and one on the way, this program is near and dear to their hearts. With their undying love of great Texas Pit barbeque and a desire for an environment where the entire family can enjoy their meal at leisure this outing is sure to be a crowd pleaser. The venue’s large “backyard” offers outside dining and one of the largest Rainbow Play Systems in San Antonio, an oversized sandbox and horseshoe pits offer play for the entire family. All proceeds from the Feast will benefit the San Antonio Public Library Foundation’s Born to Read initiative. The Born to Read initiative began in 2003 and has distributed more than an estimated 125,000 literacy bags containing two books (one bi-lingual) to babies born in Bexar County. Starting from the first day of life, the development of communication skills, language and literacy are significant. All children are born wired for feelings and ready to learn. By reading to their newborns, parents stimulate “connections” in their babies’ brains that will transform them into readers. That interaction with their children will enhance their children’s future socialization skills, build their vocabulary and lead to success in school and in life. Parents must lay the foundations for learning; the experiences they give their children shape them for life. WHO: This event is open to the public.
