Canopy Dreams for San Antonio

Canopy Dreams for San Antonio, I and II, by San Francisco artist Stephen Galloway, is a large-scale laminated glass installation inspired by two trees native to Texas depicted in a style referencing stained glass as well as the use of limestone throughout Hill Country architecture. The installation can be found inside the Walker Ranch Senior Center. The two species of trees, pecan and live oak, reflect the landscape that greets all groups who spend time in San Antonio. The artworks serve as an invitation to feel grounded in this facility, to connect with the vital local environment, and to experience the sense of health and well-being supported by this Center and the adjacent Walker Ranch Historic Park.

Stephen Galloway’s work draws from the study of landscape and nature and how humans connect to the raw and built environment through cultural legacies tied to the location. His photographs and installations are found in many public collections, including public art commissions by civic agencies, hospitals, transportation systems, and corporations.
