Foundations is a mural that metaphorically illustrates the geographical history of the area.

“Foundations” by San Antonio artist Chris Sauter is a mixed-media mural that metaphorically illustrates the deep stretch of geological history that lies beneath the grounds of the Mission Branch library. The mural is comprised of paint, dirt, magazine clippings, and other 2D historical objects. “Foundations” connects with “Core Samples,” the two outdoor sculptures representing geological core samples that welcome visitors the library.
