Past, Present, and Future

“Past, Present, and Future” bySan Antonio artist Cakky Brawley is an installation created for the Schaefer Branch Library. The artwork is a triptych that focuses on the past, present, and future of the library’s geographic area and the vibrancy of the surrounding community. The central metal sphere references the future, as well as the library, as a place of exploration and discovery. The two flanking components are a nod to the past and present. Two maps depicting the library’s location and surrounding area are engraved into acrylic and lit with a kinetic LED sequence. The map on the left is from 1887 while the map on the right is a current depiction of the area. Stakeholders and community input informed the conceptual design development. This collaboration resulted in a culmination of words, ideas and images that were transformed into a conceptually and visually cohesive design.
