Violeta De Leon Davila
Violeta De Leon Davila is a contemporary dance artist and choreographer whose work spans dance, music, film, and community projects. She directs Koncordanz, a project-based initiative creating interdisciplinary performances in San Antonio. Her stage projects include Visions Fugitives and Stations of Mychal, both presented at the International Arts Festival (UIW) with producer/director Prof. Kevin Salfen.
In 2025, she premiered her first full production, Colliding with Contemporary Dance, presenting the breadth of her choreographic work through film, live performance, music, and poetry. She also launched Kinetic Echoes – Series, a research-based project presented twice at University Health’s SaludArte Program and later as an installation at the Russell Hill Rogers Gallery (UTSA), supported by the NYFA Immigrant Artist Mentoring Program.
Earlier works include Feathered Rhapsody (San Antonio Dance Festival, 2023), Wander Dance: Beyond the Race (SaludArte and Hemisfair’s Art in the Park), Welcome to Plant Dance (Carver Community Cultural Center), and the award-winning dance film They Taught You Wrong: Metanoia – A Transformative Change.
Her projects have been supported by the City of San Antonio Department of Arts & Culture (2025 Production Cost Artist Grant Program; 2025 & 2023 Artist Grant Cycles). There is always a way to add movement to your project or idea!
As an avid learner and explorer of dance movement and choreography, I am constantly drawn to the new and innovative. My passion lies in using dance as a powerful means of portraying and communicating with the community, aiming to create performances that leave a lasting impact beyond a single moment.
I strongly advocate for the perspective of the 'ecology of culture,' recognizing the inherent responsibility we hold as artists to consider how our actions and creations benefit the community. It's crucial to build meaningful relationships with the audience, ensuring accessibility to our art while being mindful of the boundaries set by our planet. I firmly believe that every action we take as artists affects the interconnectedness of everything and everyone, and it's our duty to act with conscious intent and awareness.
