Barbara George is a cellist with the San Antonio Philharmonic, the Pearl Trio and the Artistic Director of Musical Offerings. The Pearl Trio has been prominently featured on Musical Offerings and has become a cornerstone of the central Texas music scene with live interviews and performances broadcast on Texas Public Radio. They’ve brought innovative programming to the community while collaborating frequently with other arts organizations.

Before coming to Texas Barbara was principal cellist of the Orlando Philharmonic and a member of the Orlando Philharmonic String Quartet. She was also cello professor at the University of Florida Gainesville and the University of Central Florida. Prior to her principal position she was a member of the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra and also performed, recorded and toured with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra, the L.A. Opera Orchestra and the Lyric Arts Chamber Ensemble. As a studio musician she recorded many motion picture soundtracks, commercials and record albums. Barbara was awarded a Master of Music degree from the University of California at Los Angeles and a Bachelor of Music from the Cleveland Institute of Music. In 2019 Barbara released a solo album, Femme, of cello and piano music by women composers.

Artist Statement of Work

Tell us about your work (style, approach, philosophy, subject and/or theme):

I have been performing professionally as a classical cellist in orchestras, chamber music and solo appearances my entire career. I've also been an active teacher at the college level as well young children and adults. I've had many opportunities to collaborate with other artists outside classical music in film, television, dance, pop music and jazz. As the newly appointed Artistic Director of Musical Offerings it is my goal to bring unique and diverse chamber music programming to all areas, ages and cultures of our community. I partner with other local arts organizations to explore new artistic horizons and connect with varied audiences.
