Brittany started at a young age learning how to draw. She studied Fine Art at Coastal Bend College and continued working on her Bachelor’s in Digital Communication along with a certificate in Graphic Design. While studying with the accomplished artists Jane Durea and Stephanie Harris she first explored drawing, oil painting, ceramics, and glassblowing.

Afterward, enrolled at the University of Texas in San Antonio where she explored the exciting fields of 3D modeling, digital art, and animation. She even learned how to weave music and storytelling into her creations, giving her artwork an extra dose of emotion. Her time at university not only helped her sharpen her technical skills but also deepened her appreciation for art history, with Monet and Thomas Kinkade being her favorite artists. In between her time at the university, Brittany studied Graphic Design and Advertising and earned a certificate! After graduating, she continued showcasing her work in art galleries and marketplaces. While living in San Antonio she is inspired every day by working in an Art Gallery named Kurt Youngbloods Framing and Art. Continuing her practice she works on murals and window paintings for businesses such as Little Ranchers DayCare and Sonic Food. She is always up for an adventure and painting challenges.

Artist Statement of Work

Tell us about your work (style, approach, philosophy, subject and/or theme):

Brittany Shipman is an artist inspired by nature who explores the connection between humans, animals, plants, and the wonders of color. She studies plant characteristics, growth, health benefits, and identifies which can be foraged for survival "in case of a zombie apocalypse." Her vibrant work ideas start in the beauty and tranquility of parks in Texas, where she finds inspiration through her walks and focuses on gardening and studying healthy eating. Having a floral design background Brittany fell in love with the design work and loves to 'arrange' flowers by painting. She has a  saying, "Paintings of flowers are Forever Flowers."

The paintings she makes are mixed media made with acrylic, oil, ink paint, fabric paint and sometimes glitter falls on the pieces. Lately, she has been painting with a gold metallic pigment to add a luxury effect. Brittany creates her own cute and silly characters during murals for kids and window paintings for the holidays telling a story inspiring optimism, imagination, and happiness. This artist blends nature-inspired works with a whimsical touch of movement through abstractive and impressionistic qualities. To add storytelling in her visual images there will often show parts of the world of fairies, mermaids, and animals. These elements encourage viewers to consider the unseen forces and mysteries that shape our planet or better yet a visual land to escape the harsh realities of the world.
