I have been passionate about art since I can remember, I drew figures and dresses as a young person and added as many art classes to my collage elective list as possible. I majored in Architecture which at the time felt like large constructive art. I find my self leaning more and more into the art world with each passing year. I am currently exploring ceramics at mid-large scale, as my kiln can accommodate. I lived in Albania from the age of 10-18 and traveled through Europe a lot with my family during those years. The breadth of exposure to ancient and modern art and architecture that this exposed me to was and is an inspiration and certainly has an influence on my art. Though my current passion is ceramics I am also exploring printmaking as well and have found a niche of beauty in gel plate prints that is exciting. I also have a range of experience in woodworking, textiles, and painting that I return to from time to time. Ultimately I am always looking to expand my skillset and find new exciting means of creation. While the finished work is always exciting I am most passionate about the process.

Artist Statement of Work

Tell us about your work (style, approach, philosophy, subject and/or theme):

My current style is a product of the processes that create the piece. In the world of printing I would loosely term it as pop art, or collage. I use striking images from magazines and print literature and transfer them one by one layer by layer with a gel plate to assemble one cohesive image. The process makes the art in this case and the careful assembly of pieces and layers is meditative and results in a commentary on the fading of print media and the expectations that remain even as the paper and ink become obsolete.

In ceramics I am exploring material, and texture. The process here is also important to me. From mud to finished art piece the transformation is always amazing to me. I am exploring the the abilities of humble clay to become something more, something beautiful and permanent. My style still evolving and I am beginning to stretch my skills to see how large I can go, i am interested in exploring clay through an architectural lens, creating and evoking space and a feeling of place.
