María Guerra is an artist, advocate, healer, sociologist, and social worker. Since she was a child, her creative spirit shone through various forms of expression. As a young adult, reconnecting with her artist heart was pivotal in reclaiming her power from experiences of harm and oppression. Her experiences of bullying, alienation, migration, marginalization, and health struggles have shaped her work and how she moves through the world. For María, creation is a form of play that allows her inner child’s divine essence, fiery spirit, and heart full of love to breathe.

My work aims to honor the sanctity of all life, and is rooted in the Indigenous principle, worldview, and practice of interconnection. Through my work, I explore the beauty of Earth and all its life forms, collective liberation, healing, childlike wonder, spirituality, and the divine in the mundane, among other themes. For me, art has been an instrumental tool for connecting with the fullness of my being (mind, body, and spirit) and reclaiming my power from experiences of harm and oppression. I believe art can be a powerful tool for healing, social change, and liberation.
