Novasoul
I am a native San Antonio DJ, independent record label owner, music producer, and event creator. As a DJ, I like to create moments or “a vibe,” with my music selection, customizing playlists based on the type and theme of events. I prefer to connect with people by playing new and rare music typically not featured on commercial radio nor bar and club events. This allows for unique social experiences, introducing new fans of the artists I play by sparking conversations about their music. My background as a visual artist (former graffiti artist), and photography and movie-making hobbyist, very much influences the soundtrack I curate for live events regardless of music genres.
I will be releasing music I have produced on my independent record label in collaboration with some local music artists I’ve had the pleasure of working with and becoming fans of since I began my DJ career. Dates, names, and details to be updated soon!

Tell us about your work (style, approach, philosophy, subject and/or theme):
As a music lover, it is essential that care is taken to provide the complimentary sound track for each experience that I have been privileged to be part of over the years. This includes continually finding new music, updating playlists, and understanding the concepts and intentions of organizers and creators that have chosen to collaborate with me on their events. I search for the opportunity to create a sonic snapshot of 'the moment' for any given space by selecting songs that have the potential to imprint new memories on people in that particular place and time; songs they have not heard before or songs not heard in that experiential context, thus providing new sensory associations. This takes some experimentation to explore playing music beyond the expected 'classics' and commercial charting hits.
Part of this listening experience is including local artists' original music in my DJ sets; many that I have been given opportunities to perform on stages with and even produce music with ever since I first began my DJ journey hosting a specialty radio show on college radio. I have since expanded my role as a music selector to a music creator and independent record label owner. I continue to embrace what it means to collaborate and co-create in an ever growing music and art scene in our vibrant community.
