Join the Esperanza for the annual 4th Annual Son Tus Niños También: Trans Kids Back to School at the Esperanza Peace and Justice Center on Saturday, August 10, 2019 from 5-8pm.
Free and open to the public. Translation available. The first 50 guests to arrive get a backpack full of school supplies after the event! Resource fair begins at 5pm. Speakers begin at 6pm. Panel begins at 7:15pm.
The purpose of the event is to facilitate a conversation between parents, their children, and teachers on how best to include, respect, and protect trans youth in schools. Given the current political dialogue, harmful legislation, and violence against the trans community, we want to create a safe space for the sharing of experiences, concerns, and visions of parents of trans children and trans individuals.
School administrators, counselors, and legal experts will take the stage to discuss treatment of trans children in schools, legal rights, and procedures. The discussion panel will consist of true experiences and stories of trans children and their parents in the context of US schools. The panel will also include updates from past panelists.
Resource Tables include: YMCA, SA Trans Brothers, Trans Allies, Transgender Education Network of Texas (TENT,) Esperanza, Fiesta Youth, Pride Center, Aetna, Humans Right Campaign, Metro Health Testing, Planned Parenthood.
