Catch Up on Hidden Histories!

Originally a part of the city’s calendar of Tricentennial arts activities, “Hidden Histories” is a monthly, magazine-format video series that pursues and preserves the stories, lives, and places that make San Antonio an inspiring cultural treasure. URBAN-15 developed this project to ensure that the histories memorialized by the Tricentennial celebration and World Heritage efforts truly reflect the diversity of this region, which has been inhabited for over 10,000 years—well before 300 years of European settlement. Community-produced media is one way we can broaden public participation in official histories.

Now in its third season, Hidden Histories continues to premiere monthly episodes free of charge via our online broadcasting system. Each episode highlights archival interviews with community leaders; significant performances by musicians, dancers and poets; interactions with working artists; forgotten documentaries and narrative films; and discussions of important community issues by field experts. In our past three seasons, we have explored the cultural history of pan dulce; the significance of Alamo films; the high school bands behind the “Southside Sound;” the history of special education in San Antonio; and the now-gone clubs and neighborhoods whose absent presence defines San Antonio’s cultural memory.

Upcoming episodes premiere on the first Monday of the month, free of charge, at urban15.org/live-stream. Following each broadcast, episodes are archived online at hiddenhistories.tv/archives for 24/7 access.
