Material Commentary is a group exhibition bringing together collage and mixed media artists whose practices highlight their experiences navigating the issues shaping contemporary society.
January Ross, Sergio Ramirez III, and Sophie Bolles use materials and mediums to critique the systems, policies, and societal expectations that directly impact their daily lives.
The artworks in this exhibition intersect themes of human rights, faith, immigration, tradition, gender, pop culture, and memory. Serving as physical manifestations of lived experience, these works ask the viewer to consider the real human lives facing challenges in today’s society.

Thrd Space Studio is an artist-run contemporary studio and gallery located in the 1906 South Flores Art Incubator rooted in the idea of a “third space” for creative exchange. Focusing on contemporary craft and material-driven practices, the studio presents rotating monthly exhibitions featuring local and visiting artists, alongside statewide and national open calls. Through Second Saturday Art Walks and collaborative programs, Thrd Space Studio supports artists while fostering connection within and beyond the San Antonio community.
