Opening Reception - Millennial Lotería: The LatinXperience and Permanencia Voluntaria

You’re invited to the opening reception for Centro de Artes new exhibitions: Millennial Loteria by California artists Michael Alfaro and Gerardo Guillen and Permanencia Voluntaria by Mexican Artist Froy Padilla Aragón from Oaxaca. This event takes place , February 8 at the Centro de Artes Gallery in Historic Market Square from 6 pm to 9 pm. Enjoy light refreshments and drinks by Dorcol Spirits. This event is free and open to the public.

About the Exhibitions
1st Floor: Millennial Lotería: The LatinXperience by Guest Artists: Michael Alfaro & Gerardo Guillen
Millennial Loteria is an artistic parody of the Hispanic tradition of Lotería, which replaces outdated stereotypes with modern counterparts that reflect the evolving identity and reality of Latinx Millennials. La Dama is now La Feminist, El Mundo is now La Student Debt, El Sol is now El Global Warming, and La Escalera is now La Border Wall. By showcasing the reimagined cards, this show aims to provide a snapshot of modern Latinx life, while also exploring and breaking stereotypes from Hispanic-American history, like colorism, classism, and homophobia.

2nd Floor: Permanencia Voluntaria by Guest Artist: Froy “Efedefroy” Padilla
An exhibition featuring the work of Oaxacan artist, Froy Padilla Aragón, who expresses himself through urban art pieces he conceives in his imagination about how his cultural identity was formed. His work combines pop culture icons of the eighties with figures from the Golden Age of Mexican Cinema, creating postmodernist pop art in urban spaces. This exhibition will be the artist’s first show outside of Mexico.
