He began in the seventies, doing it to entertain his family, later trying out his characters in the real world by making and recording prank calls with them. In character, he’d talk circles around the pizza-parlor employees, construction company foremen, and other people unfortunate enough to answer their phone. Those original tapes began circulating and being passed around college campuses and among musicians. The Jerky Boys eventually signed with Atlantic Records and went on to sell millions of copies of their prank call collections.
